 Frustrated by losing his split shot in streams, knowing he was contaminating the Earth and killing wildlife, K. Ken Yabusaki, an avid fly fisher, founded Opaka, LLC in 2004.
Yabusaki recalls, "I mainly nymph fish and use split shot to keep the fly in the fish's feeding zone. I lost split shot trying to remove them in the middle of a stream. I saw anglers tossing their split shots into waterways. Do you realize if half of the anglers in the U.S. tossed 10 BB size split shot into our waterways, over 11 tons of lead would be contaminating our environment? So, I invented the Split N Save™, a device that removes and saves split shot."
 Since the introduction of the Split N Save™, Yabusaki invented the Kut N Gut™, a tool for salmon anglers that use plug-cut bait.
